The Show is a collection of places in California which the artist personally visited. Local surroundings and international travels influence the subject matter, landmarks in the landscape. In her mind’s eye those landmarks that describe the place become unified with color, light and recognizable shapes. A variety of tools such as charcoal, watercolor, acrylic or oil paint challenge her to capture the quality of light, air and mood.  Like the textures and weights of fabric that determine what a finished garment looks like, similarly, the media she chooses are determined by the sensations of a place, the subject matter, and time of day.

A Maine native, Liz learned to view the natural world with the eye of an artist painting in oils the landscape in all weather conditions under the tutelage of Alicia Stonebreaker, an emigre from Poland. She continued her art education at Rhode Island School of Design, studying with famed book illustrator Chris van Allsburg, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree. A job after college gave her the chance to travel nationally where she fell in love with the California landscape.  She continued her training as a visual arts teacher in Santa Barbara at UCSB. Later on, while living overseas with her family in Auckland, New Zealand, Liz attended Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design to earn her Master of Fine Arts (MFA with an emphasis in painting and digital media). After a nearly 25-year hiatus, previously residing in Northern California, North Carolina, New Mexico and most recently, New Zealand, Liz returned to Central California where she currently teaches art full-time at Lompoc High School.
